Tryouts and Team Availability

Is Kings Youth Basketball currently holding tryouts?

No. Kings Youth Basketball is not currently accepting or scheduling individual tryouts. Information regarding the Spring 2027 season will be posted on this website and on our official social media pages when it becomes available.

What boys' divisions does KYB currently field or plan to develop?

Team availability can change from season to season and depends on having enough eligible players, qualified coaches, practice space, and appropriate competition.

KYB currently fields or is developing teams in the following divisions:

  • 14U/8th Grade Boys
  • 15U/9th Grade Boys

Divisions planned for future development include:

  • 10U/4th Grade Boys
  • 11U/5th Grade Boys
  • 12U/6th Grade Boys
  • 13U/7th Grade Boys

Listing a division does not guarantee that a team will be formed for a particular season.

How is player eligibility determined?

KYB teams generally compete in age- and grade-based divisions. Eligibility requirements, age cutoff dates, and grade exceptions are determined by the rules of the tournament or sanctioning organization for that season. The applicable eligibility details will be published when tryouts or registration open.

Are teams grade-based?

Our teams are generally organized around grade-level divisions, but they may participate in both grade-based and age-based tournaments. Every athlete must meet the eligibility rules for each event.

What if my child's division is not listed?

If a division is not listed, KYB does not currently have an active team in that group and is not presently developing one. Available divisions will be updated as the program grows.

Practices

When and where are practices normally held?

During the spring and summer season, practices are typically held on Mondays, Fridays, and selected Sundays at the V.O. Dobbins Sr. Complex in Kingsport, Tennessee. During the fall and winter season, practices typically move to TNT Sportsplex in Kingsport.

Practice days, times, and locations are subject to gym availability, team needs, holidays, tournaments, and other scheduling changes. Active families receive the current schedule directly from the program.

Tournaments

Where are tournaments held, and how often do teams compete?

Most tournaments are held in or near the Tri-Cities area, including Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol, and surrounding communities in Tennessee and Virginia.

When scheduling and team readiness allow, KYB aims to compete in at least one tournament per month and may participate in as many as three. The actual number varies by team, season, tournament availability, cost, and player availability.

More experienced teams may also compete in regional or national tournaments outside the Tri-Cities area.

Season

How long does the season last?

KYB continues team activities while a complete roster, coaching, practice space, and suitable games or tournaments remain available. The spring and summer schedule typically winds down in August. The program generally observes an off-period before activities resume in October, but exact dates vary by team and season.

Registration, Club Fees, and Assistance

Is there a registration fee?

Yes. During active registration periods, new KYB athletes pay a non-refundable, one-time registration fee. The fee helps cover items such as practice and game uniforms and initial program expenses. An athlete who has already paid the one-time registration fee generally does not pay it again after leaving and later returning to the program.

KYB is not currently accepting registration payments. The current amount, payment schedule, and any applicable conditions will be published before registration reopens.

Are there monthly club fees?

Yes. Active athletes generally pay monthly club fees to help cover ongoing gym rentals, tournament entry fees, and program operating expenses. Club fees may change based on program costs and the needs of the season.

KYB is not currently collecting club fees. The applicable fee schedule will be provided before the next registration period.

What payment methods are accepted?

Accepted payment methods will be announced when registration and club-fee payments reopen. Do not send payment until KYB provides official payment instructions.

Is financial assistance available?

KYB may offer payment arrangements or reduced registration and club fees to families experiencing financial hardship. Availability is based on program resources and individual circumstances. Instructions for requesting assistance will be provided when registration opens.

Are fundraising opportunities available?

Yes. KYB may organize fundraising activities that allow participating families to reduce eligible club or tournament expenses. Specific opportunities and crediting rules are announced to active families.
